You Asked, I've Answered: How to Stay Motivated with New Year Resolutions

You Asked: How do I stay motivated and focused on my goals throughout the year? What can I do if I lost my way and find to hard to recover?

I’ve Answered:

I get it. It can be easy to give up on your resolutions before February comes around. To help you stay on track, here are my best tips and tricks to stay on course

Writing Down Your Goals

Writing your goals is an easy way to remind yourself what your focus is for the year. In the age of technology, where our phones are almost constantly in our hands. Use this to your advantage making your home screen a list of your goals or a quote that inspires you to take an action.

Although simple, writing your goal can have a great impact on your path to success. You can easily refer to them and change them as your needs change. Writing down your goals is a way of taking a mental stance that you are committed to making those goals a reality.

Find an Accountability Partner

Having someone you can check in with every day, week, or month can greatly increase the chances of you completely your goals. Gretchen Rubin’s book, The Four Tendencies, found that most people only follow through with their goals or promises when they must be accountable to someone else. She calls this these people Obligers. To find out your habit tendency, you can take the quiz here.

Your accountability partner will not only be able to motivate you when you feel like giving up, but also call you out when they see you slacking. This will make sure that you are always doing your best.

An accountability partner should be someone you trust, who will be honest with you, and is comfortable motivating you through the difficult times. A best friend, mentor, family member, or close co worker would all be great options for a partner.

Adding it to your daily schedule

Your best life is created by the things you do every day. So, you want to make a change in your life, you’re gonna must switch up your daily routine. Whatever your goal is, work on it a little each day. Think you don’t have enough time to get started? Watch less TV, look at your phone less, or wake up 15 minutes earlier and use that time to do what is important to you. No excuses. If you want to make a change, you must make some sacrifices.

Visualize

One of my favorite ways reminding myself what I am aiming for this year would be creating a vision board. A vision board is a board filled with images, quotes, or small objects that motivate you to keep working toward your goal. Your board should make you feel like a kid in a motivational candy store (but without all the calories!). It’s important to put this board somewhere where you will see it every day, such as your room or fridge.

Vision boards can be easily made with the supplies around your house. First, find a sturdy piece of paper, or a foam or cardboard board. Then, print images out from the internet, cut out phrases from magazines, or hand write your favorite quotes. The way you design your board is completely up to you. Just have fun with it and make sure it captures your ideal life.

And If You Happen to Fall Off Track…

…then refocus and keep working toward your goals. Maybe you fell off track because you had a bad day that turned into a bad week, month, or year. Maybe you felt like you weren’t capable to reach your goals. You felt others were better than you or that you didn’t have enough skill to get to the ideal life you’ve always wanted.

Well, welcome to the club. At some point or another, everyone has felt that way. But the difference between those who have a successful, passionate life compared to those with an average life is that they choose to get up after they fell and see every failure as a learning experience. They never took no as answer and decided that they were going to make their dreams a reality, no matter the cost.

So, if you lose your way as we go through 2018, learn from your mistakes and stay dedicated to the dream. Because if you don’t follow your heart now, you’re going to spend the rest of your life wishing you had.

I believe in you, and best of luck for the New Year!
