Thank You for Making Excuses

“I’m too tired”

“I don’t know how”

“I’m not like her”

"I'm too busy"

“She’s is better than me, there’s no point in trying”

“That could never happen for me”

These are just a few of the excuses most of us tell ourselves on a daily basis. We say it before a job interview, a try out, or scholarship application. You probably make these excuses because you don’t believe you’re good enough. You think others are more qualified, or you’re afraid of failure, rejection, or success that may follow (my personal fear). I have a fear that I'll become successful and won't be able to maintain it. That people will think I'm a joke for trying to create my own business. It has stopped me many times from doing the things I love.

By making these excuses, you are only helping your competition.

I've learned that making excuses only benefits one person: your competition. They are thanking you for delaying your life plans and putting your work off for another day. That only gives them extra time to get ahead of the curve.

Your competitors aren’t going to motivate you to try harder. They aren't going to give you a pep talk when you want to give up. They’ll tell you that maybe “This isn’t for you” or “It’s too hard” There’s a reason there is only a small amount of successful people. Because most people give up on themselves before they reach their full potential. By making excuses, you have already called yourself out of the race before you even reached the starting line.

You have a vision of what you want your life to be like

Striving for anything less than your dreams is basically giving up on yourself. You HAVE to be your number one cheerleader, supporter, and friend because if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else has a reason to believe in you either. You must take the first step in order to become successful, no one has lasting overnight success. Want to be a doctor? Start at an internship. If you want to be a musician, you start by performing at a venues that only hold 50 people.

Don’t block your blessings because you’re afraid.

Everyone one is scared when they start something new, as they should be. It’s different and uncomfortable and we are naturally anxious at the thought of change. The difference between successful people and average people is that the successful ones didn't see a hardships as a road block but, instead, as a challenge that needs to be overcome. When the doors of opportunity didn’t open for them, they went through a window. They never let failure keep them down and decided that success was their only option.

You have the potential for greatness and success.

When that little voice in your head tells you you’re not good enough or questions why you’re going for something out of your league, remember this.  You are unique and gifted with a talent that you are meant to share with this world. Maybe you’re an artist who wants to be a world renowned architect one day. Or maybe you’re a great listener who would excel in counseling psychology. Big or small, each talent helps makes the world a better place.

Nothing is out of your league unless you decide it is. No one is better than you, but in return, you are no better than anyone else. Kindness, communication, and gratitude will get you far on any path in life. It will be a difficult process to reach your final goal, but taking the first step and keeping a positive attitude will make it easier to keep going.

Don’t look back at your life and regret not taking a chance on yourself. Put yourself out there and create the life you want to live today.

When I finally got up the nerve to start a business, I didn't know where to start. But through trail ad error, I found a system that works, and now I want to share it with you.
